Synopsis

Who should you trust?

Warrior King Maddox Kyronan’s fire magic has earned him a ruthless reputation. But now his kingdom is slowly burning, a blaze he cannot control, and his one chance to save it is a marriage alliance with the neighbouring royal family of Astranza and their power to manipulate the weather.

Who should you love?

As war looms on the horizon, Princess Jory’s home needs this alliance. But her family is hiding a dangerous secret: their magic is fading. When she meets her intended he sets her heart aflame, but what will he do when he realises she’s deceiving him?

Who should you kill?

Once a young nobleman causing mischief with Jory in Astranza’s palace, Asher is now part of the Hunter’s Guild. When a lucrative job arises, he can't refuse – until he sees the targets. Someone wants King Maddox and Princess Jory dead. Now Asher must decide what he’s willing to do to protect the woman he loves and the king she’s about to marry.

Thoughts & Review

The book captivated me from the start. Asher sparked my interest in his assassin hunting guild he's in. Warrior Ky was intriguing, and we still don't know THAT much about him.

"You're in love with an assassin, forced to marry a king you've never met, and discover that your childhood buddy is an assassin sent to kill you both."

She kidnaps the king together to protect each other, but things quickly escalate and become something more amongst all three of them, like hello?!

Victoria is a character I want to see more of in the next book. She's incredibly interesting, especially given how little we've seen or read about her. I believe her magic is causing problems in Incendar, which is why he needs the alliance. Ky, the king protects his sister from the little we've read about her and I'm very much curious to know why we know very little apart from her condition which is in my opinion like she's on the spectrum so thank you to Brigid for including such a character which is again amazing how she always includes characters that are in todays world.

Dane is completely a thumbs down, disliked from the start - the way he speaks to Jory the way he handles her the whole lot. Based on what I've read, he's simply your average bully, therefore I didn't like him from the start. And you'll want to strangle him by the end.

Assassins are dispatched to murder Ky and Jory until we discover who has been assisting Mr. Bossy Boots Dane in order to leave a trace, honestly could not believe it was Charlotte as she was so close to Jory but in the book we did read how she told Ky she was not best friends and more just an acquaintance.

The love triangle was really intriguing and unusual, but I'm interested to see what happens because of Asher's intriguing past and his relationships with Maddox and Jory.
